Giuliano Dal Molin

Into the Emptiness

Tuesday, May 31 the Galleria Davide Gallo, in cooperation with Galleria Lia Rumma, is pleased to present the solo show of the artist Giuliano Dal Molin, titled “Into the Emptiness”.

Born in Schio (Vicenza) in 1960, after a decade of experimentation, both at a formal level (from figuration to abstraction), and in terms of investigation of materials, Dal Molin lands, in the second half of the 80s, to a geometrical synthesis between shape and color, that brings him closer to the best Italian tradition of “Arte Minimale” and “Spazialismo”.
However his research, despite those already known that narrate the space through an evident deformation of the canvas, and despite the monochromatic abstraction, identifies its autonomy in two elements, not yet explored by contemporary languages: perspective and emptiness.
For Giuliano Dal Molin, in fact, prospective becomes part of the art process in a decisive way, because the work defines its identity through the relation between the observer and the space necessary to the vision. The surfaces of Dal Molin flex, imperceptibly, break one into each other, or seem to coexist peacefully, but also in this case it is just a momentary truce, in the clash of forces between forms and colors.
It is in the distance, through the prospective, that the work of Dal Molin defines itself, and transforms its simple variability, in a refined ambiguity.

Prospective is not the arrival point of Giuliano Dal Molin research, but rather a method, an instrument, to face an even more important and profound dimension of art: the emptiness.
So, the work of Dal Molin become expressions of emptiness. The flexed surfaces, the colored areas, do not have value for themselves, but refer to the void that either contain or suggest.
The emptiness, for Giuliano Dal Molin, is the result of a mathematical analysis, and not something of metaphisical. It is known through geometric coordinates, an entity by itself which makes powerful the art work, and independent from the physical space, relocating it in the mental space of the observer. The different energetic qualities of emptiness, are suggested by the different intensity of the colored surfaces.
That’s why the pigment has a big importance, and that’s why, as a contemporary alchemist, he distills by himself the pigment from quartz, minerals, crystals and sands, and this process put the artist in a sublime spiritual communion with the his work.
